Auditions Feb 4 & 5

Los Alamos Little Theatre announces auditions for its May production, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, the Tony Award-winning play by Tom Stoppard. Auditions will be held Saturday, February 4, from noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday, February 5, from 3 to 6 p.m. At the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar Street in Los Alamos. Callbacks will be 7 pm Wednesday, Feb. 8. Audition materials and scripts are available from the Reference Desk at the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos.

Audition materials are available on the Auditions page.

Persons interested in auditioning must memorize and perform one of two short monologues, which are included in the audition materials, in addition to participating in cold-scene readings from the play. Director John Cullinan said, “Casting for this play is gender-blind, meaning we will consider men and women for all roles. The monologues will be done solo for the production staff, then we’ll gather everyone together for scene and movement work.” Anyone interested in auditioning who cannot make the scheduled times can request an alternate time by e-mailing Cullinan at rev.jcullinan@gmail.com

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead was first performed in 1966 to immediate critical acclaim and helped establish Stoppard’s reputation as a leading playwright. The play follows two minor characters from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet trying to find their way in the world, occasionally interacting with the characters and action of Hamlet, and also intersecting with a troupe of vagabond actors. Absurdity and seeming randomness abound.

Performance dates for the play are April 29 through May 13. Rehearsals will begin Feb. 27.
