Los Alamos Little Theatre presents “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead”
April 28 through May 13 at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar Street,
Los Alamos.

LALT’s final production of the 2016-17 season, “Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead” is a Tony Award-winning play that has been called a
masterpiece of modern theatre.   

Director John Cullinan says the play is “the funniest tragedy ever
written,” and notes that the LALT production is timed to coincide with the
50th anniversary of playwright Tom Stoppard’s biggest hit.

The play follows two minor characters from Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet,”
meandering outside the main action of “Hamlet” and wondering about their
role and fate. An encounter with a traveling troupe of actors — the Player
and the Tragedians — allows a play within a play … within a play. The main
characters struggle to remember the events that brought them to this
moment, and fret about what is to come, trying to draw what few clues they
can from brief engagements with characters from Hamlet or from longer,
ribald and philosophical sequences with the Player and Tragedians.

Anyone with a taste for Shakespearean tragedy or absurdist comedy — or
both — will enjoy this show.

Performances take place Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. from
April 28 through May 13. A Sunday matinee will be presented on May 7 at 2
p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students/seniors and are

The play features Don Monteith as Rosencrantz, Trisha Werner as
Guildenstern, Jess Cullinan as the Player, and Patrick Webb as Hamlet.
Zachary Brounstein, Ian Foti-Landis, Alex L’Esperance, Alexis Perry, and
Stuart Rupprecht appear as the Tragedians and as characters from “Hamlet.”
