LALT Play Readings LA & WR Senior Centers

Be sure to mark your calendars for May 17 at the Los Alamos Senior Center and May 19 at the White Rock Senior Center—both at 12:30–for a free, very funny short play reading, Dead Right, by Elaine Jarvik. Starring Sally Cassil and Tom Farish and directed by Pat Beck, this engaging play centers on how a friend’s tedious, grammatically incorrect obituary plunges Penny and Bill, age 60s, into a prickly discussion at the breakfast table. How could Bill read the paper when they have their own obituaries to plan? It’s a touching comedy about how we hope to be remembered. This play was honored as one of only four selected out of 1300 entries by the 2008 Humana Festival of New American Plays.

The readings are part of an on-going partnership among the Senior Centers, Los Alamos Little Theatre, and playwright Robert Benjamin to bring live theater about aging in enjoyable snippets every few months to our senior community. The readings are intended not only to be entertaining, but also to spark conversation about issues relating to aging. Previous readings include I’m Herbert, by Robert Anderson; Fresh Out, Swerving, and Too Soon, by Benjamin; MusicPoemMusic, by Jarvik; and an excerpt from Not Quite Right, coauthored by Jarvik and Benjamin.
