LALT Directing Workshop

Los Alamos Little Theatre will host a class on directing the short play February 16, 2019, at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar Street.

The class is being held as part of the preparation for LALT’s May 2019 production of eight 10-minute plays. This format, offered by LALT for the sixth time, is an opportunity for people interested in becoming more involved in theatre to gain experience in a more controlled, abbreviated manner than required for undertaking a full-length play.

“The 8×10 play format has been a successful venture for us in attracting new talent to LALT,” said producer John Gustafson. “It’s an easy introduction into the ways of theatre, and many current LALT members got their first directing, acting or playwriting credits through the 8x10s.”

The directing class will be led by Jacqueline Reid, a founding member of the Fusion Theatre Company in Albuquerque and graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. Reid is an Associate Member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and has been a member of the Actors’ Equity Association since 1983. Her directing credits are numerous and her acting résumé spans stage, film and television.

FUSION Theatre Company remains New Mexico’s only Actors’ Equity theatre and was named “one of the ten most promising emerging theatre companies in the U.S.” by the American Theatre Wing.

The directing class is open to all interested parties, from complete newcomers to old hands, whether or not they are planning on participating in the 8x10s. “I expect even experienced directors will learn something new through Jacqueline’s instruction,” Gustafson said.

The class needs at least 10 participants to go forward. The cost will be $20 per participant; LALT is subsidizing part of the cost for the training.

Persons interested in reserving a spot in the class should send an email to johngus@cybermesa.com or call him at 505-412-3235 to indicate their interest.

The deadline for reserving a spot in the class is January 18.
